The Las Lagunas Theater will host the first edition of the ”Mijas City Awards’, some awards that the City Council will grant to different people and local entities with the aim of recognizing their career in different disciplines of the city, according to the mayor of the city, Josele González.

“We are the third city in the province of Malaga, with 93,000 inhabitants and more than 120 nationalities and there is no doubt that Mijas has become the heart of the Costa del Sol and it is all thanks to the tenacity and effort put in by each one of the people who are part of our municipality”, pointed out the councilor, who has highlighted that ” With these awards we want to recognize local people and entities for everything they have contributed to our city”.

Specifically, the first ‘Mijas City Awards’ will go to the firefighter Pedro Luque for a lifetime working in the rescue of peoplethe students of Berni Gabriel for their effort and dedication to dance, the Association of Persons with Disabilities (ADIMI) for their trajectory of effort and improvement and the Venta la Butibamba for being a gastronomic and historical reference on the Costa del Sol and for continue to keep alive the tradition of close and familiar Mediterranean cuisine.

Also, it is planned special mention ‘Ciudad de Mijas’ to the Canal Sur Andalucía Directo program for his commitment to current affairs, his dedication to keeping the traditions of Andalusia alive, his special treatment in the coverage of popular festivals in Mijas such as San Antón, the pastoral contest, as well as the current situation of the pandemic in the municipality.

During the development of the gala, there will also be a special recognition to groups and entities who helped during the pandemic and the Villa de Mijas Medal will also be presented to the Local Association of the Red Cross and to the health professionals from Mijas, as well as the Special Mention to Civil Protection for their dedication to the people of Mijas, especially during the Covid-19 health crisis.
