The monument to Freedom of Expression has returned to its site, in the southern area of Avenida del Mar, after undergoing restoration work. The Councilor for Works, Diego López, recalled that the installation “was withdrawn for security reasons, since there was a danger of collapse due to the corrosion of the structure where the statue was supported.” “Marbella has recovered one of the most emblematic symbols of this enclave of the city, through which many tourists and neighbors pass, and which, in addition, is a meeting place for artists in the numerous exhibitions and shows that are held in this space ”, Has valued the mayor, who has reported that various cleaning and recovery works have been undertaken on the sculpture.

Likewise, he has detailed that a new structure similar to the previous one has been executed “to maintain the essence of the complex without affecting the statue at any time”. The new pedestal, which weighs almost two tons, is a piece of steel anchored to the ground on which the monument has been welded.

Later, it will be covered with brick to protect it from corrosion and, finally, with marble and granite, “giving the complex the nobility it deserves.” The sculpture, meanwhile, will be reinforced at its base with a metal plate.

In total, the performance covers an area of 25 square meters, as noted by the councilor, who added that “with this intervention we guarantee that one of the icons of our city can be visited and immortalized with all security guarantees.”
