The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, today held a meeting with residents of Las Chapas to share with them the main projects that are being developed and that will soon be promoted in the district. In this way, among the “essential equipment”, as pointed out by the councilor, is the future health center and the covered swimming pool, two infrastructures that will be located on a 10,000 square meter plot on Hacienda San Manuel street, next to the Las Dunas institute. “They were two legislative commitments, which will be tendered this month and will be in operation before the end of the current term,” stressed the first mayor, who has been accompanied by the Councilor for Works, Diego López, and the advisor of the area, Carlos Alcalá.
Regarding the health center, Muñoz recalled that the current clinic “was insufficient to serve the population of Las Chapas” and with the “new complex, which will have more than 500 square meters built, both the surface and the services will be multiplied by five ”. In this sense, there will be four medical consultants, two from extraction nursing, another two multipurpose, a critical room, midwife and social worker consultations, as well as multipurpose and waiting rooms and a warehouse. Regarding the professional staff, the team will consist of four family doctors, three nurses, a pediatrician, a midwife and a social worker. “The investment assumed by the City Council, as it is an essential infrastructure, will be around 850,000 euros and the project will have an execution period of 8 months, with the work expected to begin in the months of March or April of next year,” he stated. .
In relation to the 25-meter indoor pool, it will be located in a part of the 6,000-square-meter plot and will have changing rooms, multipurpose rooms, cafeteria and parking. The creation of a paddle tennis court in the back area has also been planned and the work has a budget of more than 1.2 million euros, with an execution period similar to that of the health center of eight months. “These are two projects, already approved, that will provide the service that the residents of Las Chapas deserve,” said the mayor.
Muñoz has also highlighted other initiatives that are underway in the district, such as the tender of the institute together with the Costa del Sol Hospital, with 6.5 million euros; the expansion and reform of the hospital center itself, with an investment of 78 million; or the creation of new stretches of promenade. He has also announced that the collection service “will return to Las Chapas in the coming weeks, after verifying the upheaval caused by its transfer to Marbella for the inhabitants of this area.”
For his part, López has shelled the actions in the matter of Promenade connections, highlighting that work is being done so that in the coming months connect along the San Pedro Alcántara coast with the Hotel Los Monteros area, on the one hand, and the Puerto de Cabopino area with the Mijas coastal path. “We are currently acting in four sections and requesting authorizations from the corresponding administrations for another nine more,” said the mayor. Finally, Alcalá has also reported other works that have been carried out or are being carried out in the district, such as the steel works on Jacaranda street, Bonanza, Cervantes avenue, Andasol, Antilla or Zurita, in addition to carrying out the cleaning of streams. and municipal plots.
