The PSOE of Estepona has denounced that “the Popular Party, both in the Estepona City Council and in the Provincial Council, are abandoning and undermining the municipal firefighters who have been denied resources and now, in addition, they have resorted to colleagues from Marbella to cover part of the municipal area».

The secretary of the Estepona PSOE, Emma Molina, recalled that, since the Estepona Fire Station became part of the Malaga Provincial Fire Department Consortium in 2016, it has been losing personnel and material resources that have seriously damaged the service, with the consequent danger for the population.

In addition, now the Consortium has reached an agreement with the Marbella City Council so that the firefighters of this municipality cover part of the Estepona municipal area. Specifically, it is about the neighborhoods and urbanizations between the Guadalmansa river, the municipality of Marbella and Benahavís.

This affects the neighborhoods of Cancelada, Isdabe and Cortés; and to the Park Beach, Saladillo, Costalita, Bel Air, El Paraíso, Atalaya, Montebiarritz, El Campanario and Lomas del Marqués urbanizations.

The agreement states that the Marbella firefighters can carry out coverage “faster and, therefore, more effective because they are closer”. Molina clarifies that “if the Consortium provided the Estepona park with the human and material resources that correspond to its category, it would not be necessary to resort to colleagues from other municipalities, who understand that they will always come if circumstances require it.”

The spokeswoman denounces that it is “more than a collaboration, a usurpation of functions, since the members of Estepona feel discriminated against and belittled when observing how their political leaders prefer that colleagues from other municipalities cover their tasks, instead of equip them to be able to face them with guarantees”.
