Emergencias 112 has warned that the AP-7 at kilometer 160 in Estepona – Malaga will be closed to traffic in both directions.
From the Emergency 112 Andalusia system they have advocated driving with caution and following the indications of panels and operations in the area. It should be remembered that the MA-8301 and MA-8302 road closures still remain.
In the work of extinguishing the fire, which affects the Malaga towns of Jubrique, Genalguacil and Estepona, some 200 professionals are currently working by land, with nine heavy vehicles and 26 aerial means. Likewise, the Provincial Firefighters Consortium, dependent on the Malaga Provincial Council, have deployed troops.
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Carmen Crespo, has detailed that there are 2,167 hectares of perimeter, so “it is a big fire.” The most affected municipality, with more than 800 hectares, is Estepona. Likewise, the fire has burned a scattered home and the porch of a building.
The wind, the relative humidity and the heat are making it difficult to extinguish the fire, which began with two sources and of which the causes and circumstances are being investigated.
The delegate of the Government of the Board in Malaga, Patricia Navarro, activated at 0334 hours, level 1 of the Emergency Plan for Forest Fires of the Autonomous Community (Infoca Plan) in the province of Malaga. In addition, the Estepona Municipal Emergency Plan (PEM) has been activated.
The fire originated at 9:37 p.m. on Wednesday night, when 112 received the first of some 140 calls warning of a fire in Sierra Bermeja.
The mayor of Estepona (Malaga), José María García Urbano, explained this Thursday that the fire in Sierra Bermeja has affected hectares of Mediterranean forest and “important” wooded area; although it has specified that “the area of greatest ecological value, of greater protection, which is the pinsapar, has not been affected.”
