The so-called “Solheim Cup Trophy Trip” tirelessly continues its route through the Spanish geography and on this occasion it has arrived in Seville, where it was received by the Andalusian Councilor for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Mr. Arturo Bernal , accompanied by Mr. José María Arrabal, General Secretary for Sport, and Ms. Minerva Salas, Territorial Delegate for Tourism, Culture and Sport, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Seville.

The former Convent of La Merced Descalza, a building that has housed one of the most important art galleries in Spain since 1835, served as an incomparable setting to welcome the Solheim Cup trophy, the most important women’s golf team competition to be played by first time in our country from September 22 to 24, 2023.

In this way, the emblematic trophy of the Solheim Cup, a glass cup manufactured by the prestigious Irish firm Waterford, had the opportunity to share space with important works of art from Sevillian baroque painting and authors such as Zurbarán, Murillo or Valdés Leal. , before beginning his journey through other corners of the city of Seville.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Arturo Bernal, today underlined the high and prolonged impact that the celebration of the Solheim Cup 2023 will have for tourism and the golf industry in Andalusia, a competition that “will leave a mark on destiny, as happened with the Ryder Cup, that 25 years later that impulse is still perceived”.

He has stated that the dispute over the Solheim Cup in the destination “is going to mark a before and after in the strategic approach of golf in Spain and Andalusia”, while he has considered that it will contribute to consolidating the community “as the home golf and women’s sports.

He has also valued the effort to involve society in general and golf courses throughout the country, counting in the case of Andalusia “with ambassadors in each province who are introducing interest in this event in their courses and in the social mass ”, as he explained.

In addition, it has shown the enthusiasm of the regional government for this competition, a high-level event in which “it has been working since 2016 and 2017, when we began to think that it would be a good option for Andalusia”. “It was difficult, with a lot of competition, but the organization was able to see the potential of Andalusia as a preferred and reference destination”, he highlighted.

The event was attended by Mr. Pablo Mansilla, Mr. Santiago Urquijo and Mr. Miguel Navarro, president, vice president and general secretary of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation; Mr. Vicente Rubio, president of the Finca Cortesín golf club; and Ms. Alicia Garrido and Mr. Iñigo Aramburu, President and CEO of Deporte & Business, the company promoting the event.

The five Sevillian ambassadors of the Solheim Cup did not miss the event either, since they will be the ones in charge of ensuring that the trophy continues to tour the most prominent places in the capital of Seville and that it is the best loudspeaker to publicize women’s golf and bring this championship to all areas of Spanish society.
