The Costa del Sol closed the month of August with a 76.42% average occupancy, according to data from the Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs AEHCOS. This percentage has increased to 91.2% on the eastern coast (Nerja, Frigiliana and Torrox), and up to 87.34% in Marbella and San Pedro Alcántara, that lead the hotel occupancy on the western Costa del Sol.
The Malaga hotel association considers the high season as «an atypical summer » that has been saved thanks to national tourism. According to your data, 69% of the total number of tourists received by the Costa del Sol have been Spanish, and only 31% came from other countries.
However, the tourism sector has shown its concern about the low international demand for the next months, traditionally very weak for Spanish tourism, which opts more for the summer months. AEHCOS awaits «with uncertainty and great concern»What may happen in the coming months, in which« Malaga airport connections with other countries will be essential ».
The collective recalls that coastal areas depend to a greater extent on international tourism and tour operators and what in 2019 -the year before the pandemic-, hotel occupancy on the Costa del Sol reached 89.73%, almost 15 points more than in 2021.
