The councilor attached to the Sports and Youth delegations, José Antonio Bandera, the president of the Estepona Athletics Club, Luis de la Haza, and the president of the Rotary Club Estepona-Costa del Sol, Montse Pijuán, today presented the VIII Urban Race 10 kilometers from Estepona ‘Carrefour Trophy’, to be held this weekend.

The municipal official has declared that the return of this competition was highly anticipated by the fans, after last year it could not be held due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic.

In addition, he referred to the interest it arouses among runners and this year highlighted the presence of elite athletes like the one who was the Spanish Marathon Champion Estela Navascués, the European champion Master 40 in 10 Kms and silver in half marathon in its category, Javier Diaz Carretero, and the veteran athlete with a long and successful national and international career, Agustin Molina.

For her part, the president of the Rotary Club Estepona-Costa del Sol, Montse Pijuán, referred to the solidarity character that has this race in all its editions. Specifically, this year the Rotary club has announced that it will donate the proceeds from the race for minors to the Rhythmic Gymnastics Club of Estepona and the Virgen del Carmen Cycling Club. In addition, the sports day will be used to collect kilos of non-perishable food that will go to the Social Dining Room.

Regarding the development of the competition, the president of Club Atletismo Estepona, Luis de la Haza, has reported that as in every edition, this test will have the Minors and Absolute Race (5 and 10 kilometers). Although as announced this year, as a novelty, the competition will take place in two days to avoid the concentration of a large number of participants. With which, The race for minors will be held on Saturday, October 9, and the 10 and 5-kilometer race will be held on Sunday, October 10. Also seeking this objective, the number of athletes who will participate in the absolute race has been limited.

The route planned for the absolute race will include streets of the old town and the main avenues of the city. Instead, the minor races will take place at the Athletics Stadium and the Fair and Sports Park. All will start and finish at the Athletics Stadium.
